Editorial Policies
Aims and Scope
The annual collection "Auxiliary Historical Disciplines" was regularly published by the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences from 1968 to 2023. Thanks to the co-founder, the publishing house "Nauka" (Moscow-St. Petersburg), the collection has been reformatted into a journal publication. Since 2024, it has been published at a frequency of four issues per year.
The journal continues to publish materials that present the results of the study of a wide range of diverse sources of written, artistic and material heritage of the VI-XXI centuries and rare publications of a small volume of narrative and epistolary character related to newly discovered archival funds: domestic and foreign. The traditional rubrics devoted to domestic and foreign archaeography, issues of source studies and methods of research of historical sources and monuments are preserved.
Peer Review Process
All materials that are not rejected as a result of preliminary verification are subject to mandatory anonymous double scientific review, without specifying the author's surname. Scientific reviewing can be carried out also by members of the editorial board. Reviews are stored in the publishing house and in the editorial board for 5 years. In case of non-compliance with the formal requirements of the publication, the editorial office of the publication sends a reasoned refusal to the authors of the submitted materials, and also undertakes to send copies of reviews at the request of competent authorities when the editorial office of the publication receives a corresponding request.
Until the publication of materials, reviewers and members of the editorial board have no right to use or refer to the reviewed materials.
Publication Frequency
Regular issues of the journal are published 4 times a year (quarterly).
